London Fashion Week: Review

Now, Fashion Weeks are taking place in Europe and for starters it's London, followed by Milan and Paris.

This season, Mulberry's collection was inspired by the jungle. Leopard and panther prints were everywhere. The saturated color, intense animal prints, gold jewelery, and amazing camel wool coats made a successful show. Wait, that's not all, this season dogs and their owners will get the chance to be warm and cozy with one of those chic sweaters. What do you think? Are dogs in now?

Antoni Berardi's inspiration was clearly towards the Saint Laurent 70s. Some sheer tops, fur coats, little black dresses were kind of a cliché. However, the studded jacket, red velvet dress, and the black and white geometrical shapes of the dresses gave it a new twist.

Matthew Williamson is best known for making bright colorful dresses and garments. However, sometimes he likes to experiment other types of audience and makes elegant sophisticated clothes. In this case he did both. The prints of the silk colorful one-shoulder minidress were breathtaking. Don't you think s

"We don't want to get categorized as a cocktail-print designers, so we're trying tailoring and more daywear" said Peter Pilotto. This collection, with a  brownish-orangey palette from the 70s, still kept the Peter Pilotto "flavor" which was added with silver leather straps to the garmetns and some fabulous dresses with very interesting prints.

Last but not least, Burberry Prorsum, one of the most anticipated shows at London Fashion Week. Christopher Bailey's new collection was transmitted live in 3-D from London to a couple of other cities around the world such as Paris, New York, Tokyo, Dubai, and Los Angeles. What do you think of this new amazing technology? (If you want to know more click here.)
For now let's forget about technology because this collection is a lot more than just that. The leather giant.collared overcoats and the pair of amazing up to the thigh boots were impressive. Backstage, after the show, Christopher Bailey said " I was thinking of uniforms and cadet girls-but it all started when I looked at an aviator jacket in the archive. Then, as I started designing into it, I realized it could be as versatile as the trench-strong and sexy. masculine and feminine." (source: www.style.com)  It was instantly avaible for pre-order on the Burberry Web site 'till February 26th. Definitely my favorite show of  LFW. What is yours?

Accesories such as broches, high heels, hair accesories, tote bags, bracelets, and belts are also part of this collection. New York Fashion Week Ready-to-Wear Fall 2010: Review Part 2

Chunky cashmere sweaters, camel suede wrap shirts, leather cargo vests, and sequined jersey gowns made the sportswear Michael Kors' collection  very luxurious. According to Style.com "It exemplified the combination of indulgenge and irreverence that made this collection such a hit:" Do you agree?

Sophia Kokosalaki, the new creative director of Diesel Black Gold, said backstage "I wanted to infuse technique into the clothes, but still have them soul inherent to the brand" (source: www.style.com). This collection had mostly faded denim vests and shirts but also some black leather skinny trousers and cute little dresses.

Sculptural shapes along with tailoring and shift dresses were some of Francisco Costa's interests this season. He also paid attention to the curves on the female body. The colors of this collections-which were mainly a scale of blacks, grays, and whites- remind me of the Ying and Yang symbol.

Oscar de la Renta's collection was inspired by the 80s with glossy makeup and bright colored coats with long cashmere scarfs. Glamorous gowns with flattering ruffles and glittery beads targeted the Hollywood sect. The best word to describe this collection is ELEGANCE.

Narciso Rodriguez's collection is strong, interesting, and balanced. The designer said that his inspiration were "beautiful curved lines and shadows:" Indeed, the dramatic coats and fabrics used had the appereance of shadows. Although his collection was inspired by shadows, Narciso Rodriguez still ussed some color which I found very refresing.

Last but not least, Tommy Hilfiger whose collection was inspired by a girl described as Katherine Hepburn. The duck boats, blazers, colorful bags, and shorts with tights gave a youthful twist to the brand. Tommy Hilfiger closed New York Fashion Week. Now we'll have to wait 'till September to see more.

Overall which collection is your favorite, why?

New York Fashion Week Ready-to-Wear Fall 2010: Review Part 1

New York Fashion Week finally started this past Thursday at Bryant Park. It seems as if it were just yesterday when the big apple welcomed  Designers to show their spring summer 2010 collections. And here we are again, anticipating what fashion will be in Fall 2010.

Bryant Park  lit everyone's spirits up when they saw their favorite designer's oeuvre d'art walk down the runway.
Jason Wu's inspiration of his short-sleeve jackets, oversized cashmere coats, and fold-over trouvers was the photographer Irving Penn's personal style. Plaid jackets and crisp white shirts were the photographers daily uniforms which gave a big meanswear message to the collection. A couple of times after his show, Jason said that "There's a big meanswear message and a big outwear message." The collection's golden leaves and black smoky prints were also inspired by Penn's photographs

The pleated mini skirts, side-ponytails, long scarves, and oversized wool coats gave the feeling of a schoolgirl in the 60s but with touch of  modernity. The different geometric shapes were the key to DKNY'S collection, which as always had a New York spirit.

This collection from Carolina Herrera felt more familiar than her recent ones. It was ultra-luxurious and
elegant. The day and evening dresses had brush stroke prints and floral embroiders in a color pallet of Prussian blue, deep red. Fur, high waisted pants, and blouses played also a major role.

Diane von Furstenberg played with hard and soft using chiffon rosettes over grey wool. The collection also had some men's suits. "I always wanted to live a man's life in a women's body" states Diane von Furstenberg.

Marc Jacobs' show was one of the most anticipated at Bryant Park. Although the color palett was very soft and neutral Marc Jacobs still managed to make an interesting show. After the show, Marc Jacobs declared that "It's refreshing to see something that isn't trying so hard to be new. There's so much striving for newness now that newness fells less new." Do you agree?

The inspiration of Lacoste's creative designer, Cristophe Lemaire, were photos of the 30s of René Lacoste and his friends playing. Alpaca oversized hand-knit outwear wrapping were worn over shorts. The colorful belts with pompoms and the high ponytails pulled to the side with berets made the collection very unique.
Video:
The colorful party dresses are adorable and they show Zac Posen's showmanship . The blazers and fur added a touch of sportswear to this glamourus collection. Overall, I think this was one of Zac Posen's most interesting shows.

So, which collection is your favorite? It's hard to choose when you love them all as I do, right?

Saturday Outfit:Happy Valentine's!

I was really shocked when I found out a few days ago about Alexander Mcqueen's death. He commited suicide at the age of 40 after his mother's death. Only a few designers like him take risks and can make the runway magic. This is a tragic loss for the fashion industry. He made people look at fashion in a different way and will always be considered a genious.
Alexander McQueen's fall 2006 collection:

Valentine's day is right around the corner and  probably many of you are looking for the perfect present for friends or loved ones. I carefully selected my top ten valentine's gifts which I hope they'll inspire you. What's your favorite? Which one would you like to receive?

What would you wear to tour perfect date on Valentine's? Here's a bit of inspiration. Today's outfit is based on the idea of going out to dinner on Valentine's with that someone special. I love the combination between the baby pink which is soft and feminine and black which is a bit more edgy. What to do think? Would you wear it on a date for Valentine's?

Saturday Outfit: Going to NY Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week is coming up soon and if you are going, having the perfect outfit is a must. I know that many of you are still struggling with your outfits so here are some tips that might help you.

1- It is extremely IMPORTANT to be yourself and wear something that you feel COMFORTABLE with
2-Don't forget that you'll meet new people and they'll usually look at your appearance (it's a shame, I know but it is usually like that)
3-Accessories and jewelry can make your outfit look more expensive.
4-Try to make your outfit unique but still keep it elegant and chic
5-A medium size tote (like the one on this outfit) will be very handy since you might need a notebook to keep notes, a camera, and business cards to exchange contacts with the people you'll meet.
6-Be yourself and have a fashionable time!!!

Here's an outfit that I would wear if I were going to NYFW (I wished I could). What do you think? Would you wear it ?

1-Tote: Miu Miu
2-High Heels: Christian Louboutin
3-Earrings: Lanvin

Paris: The Epicenter of Haute Couture

Haute Couture is the French word for "high sewing" which refers to a creation of custom-fitted clothing made for a specific customer with high quality, expensive fabrics sewn with hand-executed techniques and with extreme attention to details.(Wikipedia).

Last month on the 21th to 26th January 2010, designers showed their creativity of Haute Couture in Paris, its city of birth. Everyone,  fashionistas, bloggers, celebrities, and journalists, were anticipating the Spring/Summer 2010 Haute Couture show in Paris. The show wasn't just impressive, it was a masterpiece.
Chanel's  collection included some of the brand's  nubby skirts and tweed suits on very feminine pastel colors such as baby pink, cornflower blue, and marigold yellow. The silver and metallic adornments gave a touch of modernity to the garments. The bride's dress in thrid picture on the second row is really impressive and extremelly beautiful. The collection is a delicacy of fashion itself.

Watch the video:

Dior's Haute Couture collection is inspired by ladies in  the early 20th centuary in England. The garments are very carefully crafted and show John Galliano's most romantic side. Dior will always be Dior.

Video:

Giorgio Armani's collection is as breathtaking taking as the crescent moon. His inspiration is clearly shown in the shapes, textiles, and accesories of the collection. I'm sure that many of these glamourus dresses will be seen very soon on the red carpet. With no doubts my favorite favorite collection.

Video:

When I saw Givenchy's collection I imagined  a very mysterious women who is chic, modern, and unique . This collection had texture, colors, and exquisite taste.
Video:

Valentino is still Valentino but with a different point of view. The designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have created a younger side of the brand by using light, flowy, colorful fabric. I think that the drapping on the first picture is marvellous.
Video

Elie Saab's collection is every single girl's dream wardrobe. The dresses are breathtaking . The whole collection is very fresh, yound, and sophisticated.

Video:

I was very impressed with Jean Paul Gaultier's collection which had a sort of Spanish conquistators and Mayan inspiration.  It isn't easy to bring that inspiration into fashion and jet some of the garments like the third anf fifth on the first row are very wearable. The gigantic sombreros  are very unique.

Haute Couture in Paris left everyone waiting for more. Which designer's collection is your favorite? Why?
Enjoy and get inspired!
