I know that there are thousands and thousands of posts about Lanvin's collection for H&M, but before you think "Yet another Lanvin for H&M post, can't someone do something more original?" read it.
I was going over the Lanvin for H&M Lookbook this morning, which has been realeased the 3 November, and asked myself a simple question, "Is this really luxury? Is this really Lanvin?" Alber Elbaz states that "It's not about a dress for less" but I still think Lanvin fro H&M is not 100% Lanvin. Don't get me wrong, giving people the opportunity of having a Lanvin dress in their closet is a great idea and it is probably any girl's dream, but I still think it isn't luxury in its complete form anymore. What is the point of lining up hours in advance to get your hands on one of these Lanvin dresses that people from all over the world are buying at the same exact time? After all would you consider lining up for hours to get a Lanvin dress a luxury? In my opinion, part of what makes having a Lanvin dress special is the process of going to the shop, carefully trying the dress on, touching the fabrics, looking at the perfect construction of each garment around you, and living the shop with a big radiant smile and holding a Lanvin bag in your hand knowing that a few people own what's inside.

Honestly, H&M did a remarkable job with the whole campaing. They used the best marketing strategies, such as the blog competition, which were very original and new. The video was also very promising even though the length was longer than usual. I love the whole slogan of "I want Lanivn not flowers".

I'm curious of what will happen on 23 when the Lanvin for H&Mcollection, which according to Vogue.co.uk is "the most exciting collection H&M has ever produced", hits the stores at 8:00 (cet). After all, I have to admit that I wouldn't mind having one of these dresses.

If you haven't watched the video yet, what are you waiting for?

What about you? Do you want Lanvin or flowers?

  1. You're right. I agree with you. Finally i think that 3 hours (or more) to wait maybe it's too much for me. And i'm just 16 years, when will I wear that kind of dresses ? They are beautiful of course but you're so right when you say that everyone would have the same dresses. I think that i prefer wait and save money for a "real" Lanvin's dress.
But i love love love the last dress !!!
Bisous from "parisian" (i say that for the english faults) Birdy. "Je t'adore" ;)

  3. This is exactly how I felt about all those designer collaborations with Target. It was an awesome idea, but honestly, I'd really rather have the original, not the cheap mass market version. Lol.

I don't have an H&M anywhere near me, unfortunately, but if I did I think I would probably buy something. After all, the clothes are cute and why not? ;)

  4. So excited about Lanvin for H&M, but I definitely agree with you that we're so used to associating Lanvin with luxury that it's questionnable whether this collection will work. However, I' loving all the ruffled dresses and from what I've seen of the lookbook so far, I love it!

  5. I adore the black dresses. Lanvin did an excellent job with this. Must confess I wouldn't mind having one or tow of these dresses, too.
    Have a nice weekend;-)

  6. I totally agree with you. The luxury of a Lanvin dress isn't just the garment itself, but involves the whole process and so-called journey we go through to acquire one.

  7. I have to say that the collection is really beautiful, but I don't think I would wear these dresses. But the tee shirts are pretty cool ! This morning I saw this : http://www.theblondesalad.com/2010/11/h-lanvin-dress-on-my-body-d.html
You see all the wires ? I mean, that's not really good quality (well it's h&m, but they could do something !), it's a shame. Though the video and the photos are great :)

  10. I agree with your general statement and the whole point of luxury is the fact that it's exclusive and not affordable for everyone. Doing a high-street collaboration eliminates that factor as well. In addition, it's not just a design that defines high fashion, but also the materials, so even if Alber Elbaz created the looks, it's still H&M producing the garments. I do think the quality is superior to what H&M normally does, but definitely doesn't come close to anything Lanvin would produce. I won't be queuing, but I might check in during my lunch break, just to see if anything's left.

  11. I could only buy the black one shoulder dress with the black shoes, unfortunately I wanted the t-shirts, but they were sold out so quickly. You can see me wearing the outfit on my blog : www.thefashionmom.com
